Operating and Cleaning a Spit Roast BBQ

Roast BBQ Catering

Whether you are hosting a function or a party, having a spit roast BBQ is an excellent way to cater to a large group of people while keeping them entertained. You might have borrowed a spit roast from your friends or family or even hired one from a catering company. If you are unsure about how to operate and clean the spit roast, these common-sense instructions will guide you accordingly.

Cooking instructions:

  1. Open the spit and cover the drip tray with aluminium foil to make cleaning easier.
  2. Prepare the meat by cleaning, removing excess fat, and adding salt and seasoning.
  3. Pass the shaft through the center of each piece of meat to be cooked.
  4. Secure the meat in place with the provided forks.
  5. Insert the shaft correctly into the rotisserie.
  6. Turn on the gas and light the burners.
  7. Switch on the power to the motor and turn it on.
  8. After ensuring that the meat is rotating correctly, close the lid, and adjust the burner knobs until the correct cooking temperature is reached.
  9. Once the meat is cooked, turn off the gas, burners, and the rotisserie motor.
  10. Let the meat rest for 5 minutes before removing it from the shaft and slicing it.
  11. For best cleaning results, soak the forks immediately in hot water.

It is common for catering hire companies to require a significant deposit for cleaning in case you forget or choose not to clean the spit as required. To receive your cleaning deposit back, follow these simple cleaning instructions:

Cleaning instructions:

  1. For the best cleaning results, place the forks in hot soapy water immediately after cooking.
  2. Remove the drip tray and discard the aluminum foil, excess juices, and fat.
  3. Remove the electric motor from the end of the spit and place it away from water.
  4. Using warm soapy water and a soft scourer sponge, scrub down the interior and exterior of the spit and shaft.
  5. Rinse the spit with cold water and let it air dry before reassembling the machine.

By following these simple instructions, you will have a successful spit roast BBQ event and be able to clean up appropriately.
